Lori Spears relocated to Pittsburgh in 2004 to continue her career in fundraising with Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to her current position with ICTI, Spears was a major gift officer in Individual Giving with Carnegie Mellon’s University Advancement. As a ten-year fundraising veteran, she also served as the assistant vice president for Major and Planned Gifts, and as director of Planned Giving at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. While managing the fundraising unit at Claflin, the university was engaged in a $20 million capital campaign, the largest in the institution’s history. The university exceeded the initial goal by $10 million.

Spears holds a Ed.D. in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, a Master of Arts in Institutional Media Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in English from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC.

Before joining the Program, Sara Brandão was with the University of Cambridge, UK. For four years (2007-2011) she was the Business Manager of the Centre for Applied Research in Educational Technologies, an innovation unit focused on learning and research technologies. Prior to her career in Higher Education Administration, she was responsible for Planning and Management Control at Grupo Crumar, a Portuguese manufacturer of bath related articles (1997-2007).

Sara Brandão holds an undergraduate degree in Business Administration, from Faculdade de Economia of the Universidade do Porto, and an Executive Master in Audit and Management Control, from Católica Porto Business School.

Ana Moura has eight years of experience in communication, both as a journalist and as a communication manager. She worked as a journalist and editor at Rádio Clube and M80 for more than two years and has also experience on television media like TVI and Localvisão. Before arriving to CMU Portugal, she joined a research centre where she created and developed its communication department, including social media and an international PhD dissemination. CITAB (at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro) was more than 800 times on the news in less than three years. 

Ana is also a proud Alumna from the University of Porto: she has a Degree in Communication Sciences and a Master in History, International Relations and Cooperation with a specialization on media and international affairs. She also studied at the University of La Sapienza in Rome, Italy, where she did one semester exchange.

Ben Walfish, Senior Administrative Coordinator, has been with the Information and Communication Technologies Institute since October 2010. Before joining ICTI, Ben worked as a Facilities Assistant with Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. He has also worked in a Production Planning Co-op with Johnson & Johnson, as well as participated in initiatives to reduce obesity in Allegheny County and to foster retail development in Pittsburgh's Northside area. He received his B.S. in Policy and Management (’10) from CMU, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and his M.S. in Public Policy and Management ('15) from CMU's Heinz College.

Ana Lopes has been with the CMU Portugal Program team since the summer of 2014. Before joining the Program, Ana worked as assistant of UTEN Portugal Program (University Technology Enterprise Network) for over a year. During this period, she was involved in all the activities related with event planning and management, as well as administrative support, working closely with its scientific director. Prior to her work in the UTEN Portugal, Ana did an internship in a communication agency in Porto, where she helped to develop communication strategies and to organize brand awareness events.

Ana Lopes holds a master’s degree in Communication Sciences, with a specialization in Public Relations and Advertisement, from Universidade do Minho. She is a passionate about performing arts, having studied professional theatre.

Carolina Carvalho holds a Master Degree in Communication Science by the Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the Universidade do Minho.
For four and a half years, Carolina worked as the administrative manager of the Erasmus Mundus Eurheo Master Course, a project funded by the European Commission’s Education Audiovisual and Cultural Executive Agency, based at the University of Minho. As part of an international team, she was responsible for the administrative and financial management of the course. Carolina worked closely with student and teacher scholarship holders, from the application stage throughout their participation, coordinating a complex mobility scheme that involved six Universities and five countries.
Carolina Carvalho joined the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program with the ICTI@Portugal Office in May 2013, where she focuses on the website content while also providing administrative support to the program.
