The Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program, funded by the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), is responsible for the coordination of inRes, in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) and INESC TEC.

Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program

The 
Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program (CMU Portugal) is a platform for education, research and innovation that brings together Portuguese universities, research institutions and companies, and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). The partnership was launched in 2006, and was renewed for another five years in 2012. Its mission is to place Portugal at the forefront of innovation in key focused areas of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), by promoting cutting-edge research, world-class graduate education and a close collaboration with the Portuguese industry. It’s activities are funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), supported by the Council of Rectors of the Portuguese Universities (CRUP), and co-financed by business partners and by CMU.

The Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA), the marketing affiliate of the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, markets the benefits of conducting business in southwestern Pennsylvania to companies all over the world that are growing, relocating or expanding. The PRA also works to support the growth of existing regional employers.

Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) 

Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia is the national funding agency for science, technology and innovation, in all scientific domains, under responsibility of the Ministry for Education and Science. FCT’s vision is to establish Portugal as global reference in science, technology and innovation, and ensure that knowledge generated by scientific research is used fully, for economic growth and the well-being of all citizens. FCT started its activity in August 1997, succeeding the Junta Nacional de Investigação Científica e Tecnológica (JNICT). Since March 2012 FCT coordinates public policies for the Information and Knowledge Society in Portugal, after the integration of the Knowledge Society Agency - UMIC

In October 2013, FCT took over the attributions and responsibilities of the Fundação para a Computação Científica Nacional (FCCN). FCT’s mission is to continuously promote the advancement of knowledge in science and technology in Portugal, attain the highest international standards in quality and competitiveness, in all scientific and technological domains, and encourage its dissemination and active role in society and in economic growth. FCT pursues its mission by funding fellowships, studentships and research contracts for scientists, research projects, internationally competitive research centres and state-of-the-art infrastructures, via competitive calls with international peer-review. FCT ensures Portugal’s participation in international scientific organizations fosters the participation of the scientific community in international projects and promotes knowledge transfer between R&D centres and industry. Working closely with international organizations, FCT coordinates public policy for the Information and Knowledge Society in Portugal and ensures the development of national scientific computing resources. The results of FCT accomplishments are, in essence, the outcome of the work carried out by the individual scientists, research groups and institutions that are funded by FCT.

INESC TEC

The Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science – INESC TEC is an Associate Laboratory with more than 30 years of experience in R&D and technology transfer. Present in 6 sites in the cities of Porto, Braga and Vila Real, INESC TEC incorporates 13 R&D Centres and one Associate Unit with complementary competences, always looking to the international market.
INESC TEC brings together more than 650 researchers, of which more than 270 have PhDs, forming a robust cluster with complementary skills and with notable international presence. INESC TEC invests in Scientific Research and Technological Development, as well as in Advanced Training and Consulting, Technology Transfer and supports the Establishment of new Technology-based Companies.
